"For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest. Each of you will be given teammates... today. These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well."
"That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years. After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path... or you will die."
"You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?"
"Good! Now, take your positions."
**This happens after the Library thread and the Midnight Snack thread. Everyone post your landing strategy then join your Partner thread and meet you randomly selected partner.**

Brook is ready when the plate she's standing on launches her up she puts a hand up opening a portal she openings it up far ahead of her opening up showing the treeline below her, she then pushes her chest out and the other Brooke the boy Brook comes shooting out of her, he will put his arms and legs back making a bullet shape and aiming his head straight at the ground as the two of them head through the portal. It vanishes.

Brant looks quite relaxed when he's standing on his launching platform, having figured out what to do a while ago. As soon as the platform launches him upward, he seems to vanish, only to re-appear about 20 meters forward, already changing his upward momentum into pure forward momentum, shortly after appearing his disappears once more, making another 20 metre jump, using the angles of his dimensional foldings to keep control of his forward and downward momentum. Once he is close enough to the ground he'll make a final folding, spilling him out in a horizontal direction, allowing him to shoulder-roll his way into relatively comfortable safety

Post by Lancetta Lake on Nov 19, 2018 16:28:26 GMT
Lancetta braces herself and gulps, only slightly nervous. This is MUCH better then an airship, so few things can go wrong mechanically! She gives a thrilled Squeek as she launches off through the air keeping her body straight and stiff, though one hand up to hold her beret on lest the wind yank it off. As she reaches the top of the arch she twists and moves to set herself up, hand reaching behind her back to grab the collapsed Blastcannon and flicks a switch causing it to spring out into its full Lance form.
A quick swing points it to the ground as her new position starts to slow her forward motion and she braces her feet against the backspike of the blade and braces herself, flicking another switch and FLOOMP!! The back of the shaft opens up spreading dozens of thin spindly arms, all connected by Dust reinforced fabric in the form of a giant umbrella/parachute as she begins to drift to the ground slowly, peering out and around looking for a safe landing zone. Spotting one a distance away she braces herself and pulls the trigger, the cannon firing with a massive report causing her to launch up into the air gaining the altitude she needs to make it to the clear ground... And annihilate a portion of the ground below in the process...

Post by Scarlet Cardinal on Nov 19, 2018 16:32:05 GMT
Scarlet gave Brook a little nod on the plate, "Good luck," she said happily before double checking her weapons. She had several high-velocity rounds in her pistol which should upon firing decelerate her in the air. Of course, that's how she lost speed, the other problem was the trees, there was actually no telling what bit of the forest she was going to touch down in and what trees might be in the way. That bit she would have to improvise.
The sudden acceleration of being launched into the air took her breath away and Scarlet allowed herself to look at the view. It was like being on the outside of the airship...if the airship was in free-fall towards the ground. She pulled out her long-barrelled pistol and held it in both hands ahead of her. She fired once and felt the tremendous kick-back of the weapon in her grasp, her speed dropped and so did her trajectory. She fired again and was very nearly falling vertically.
Holstering the pistol and drawing out her blade as she began to plunge through the canopy of the Emerald Forest, she extended the shaft and jabbed the now six foot long spear into the trunk of the tree. It bit once but came free. Scarlet flipped over and stabbed it in again, this time it stuck. The spear shaft bowed as it arrested Scarlet's fall leaving her dangling about ten feet off the ground.
Edging herself along the shaft, Scarlet braced her feet against the tree trunk and pulled the spear out. She executed a backflip and landed on the ground. Taking a moment to feel the exhilaration of having survived, Scarlet turned and started walking north.

Umbra takes several deep breaths before being launched off the pad and as soon as she is in the air it seems as if she calms down. as soon as she reaches some trees she turns her weapon into its knife form and digs it into a tree after she stops moving she jumps off and starts walking to the north end of the forest.

Orchid leaps from the plane with nary a word. She then gets flung into the air.
Only problem: No parachute.
She slams into the ground with the crashing of branches, trees, maybe a few bones.
A few seconds later she steps out of the underbrush, brushing herself off like nothing happened, and gets her baseball bat out.

Sylvie isn't immune to vertigo, but she's stubborn enough to ignore it. She's launched into the air and lets out a whoop of excitement, spreading her arms, fingers spread wide. Between the seams of her gauntlets flows tendrils of bright, bloody red that trail behind her, spreading and flattening together and outwards until she has formed two batwings that spread from her hips to her fingertips and beyond. They don't flap like proper wings, but catch plenty of air in their rigid state allowing her to glide towards to the ground smoothly. She covers a lot of distance in the process, but the wings shrink as she dips into the treetops, giving less lift but avoiding impact with branches.

Post by Haze Starling on Nov 20, 2018 2:37:21 GMT
~Because OF COURSE they're hurling us off a cliff...~
Haze was dressed in her combat outfit, equipment and weapons strapped in tight to their proper places. She was standing casually on the launching plate, her arms crossed over her chest, listening to Ozpin explain the rules. Glancing down the line on either side of her, she took in the varied expressions and stances of her fellow students. Noting those with less experience in how they shuffled their feet or stood in such a way that the plate would offset their flight in such a way they might get hurt. Those with more confidence in their skills were calm, still, and set in such a way to take the eventual thrust of the metal launching pad.
Over the years she had heard a multitude of differing and often times wild stories about how Beacon initiated its newest recruits. Now she was here...and she had to admit that some of those tales were ringing true. She took a deep breath and calmed herself. She could do this. She may not have experienced this exact situation...but she wasn't so green that she couldn't plot a way to land safely.
"Good! Now, take your positions."
At the headmaster's words Haze bent her knees and dropped her hands to grip the hilts of Argent Facade. Then there was pressure, a loud bang, and she was airborne. For a moment she closed her eyes and just relished the feeling of the wind whipping through her hair and over her body and face. It wasn't often she got to feel like she was flying under her own power. Exhilaration thrilled through her and she laughed out loud, knowing it would be lost in the wind around her.
Then her eyes were open and scanning the scene as her trajectory started to change. Soon flying would be falling and she needed to make sure she had a route planned out.
Silver eyes flicked back and forth, calculating and determining risk. Then she nodded and forced her body to corkscrew in mid-air, gaining momentum as she dove for the ever approaching canopy. She pulled her tonfas free with a vicious grin and pressed a button on the hilts. Simple silver and steel sticks sprouted serrated blades on either end. She tucked her body into a ball and flipped forward until she was falling feet first. That was when she reached the first branch. Haze stretched arms up to allow the blades to catch on the bark, her speed took her under and then over again.
Back into the air sailing lower until she repeated the feat with another branch. Then she arced her body towards the trunk of the next tree on her descent. Again she brought the bladed tonfas to bare. Digging deep and allowing herself to spiral down around the trunk. This would get her safely to the ground...or so she thought.
Halfway down, the blades caught on something and Haze found herself falling from a higher distance than was safe for her. She cursed furiously and fluently under her breath at the miscalculation and then forced herself calm once again. She marked a spot on the ground and then closed her eyes. She felt the mist surround her - little drops of dew forming on her skin from its contact. Then was rolling safely on the ground until she came up into a kneeling stance, weapons at the ready.
"Not quite how I imagined it, but I'm not dead. So there's that..." She breathed.
Haze stood and brushed the leaves and detritus off her outfit before starting off for the north end of the woods. Whoever she met along the way would be her partner...

Post by Walter Sapelli on Nov 20, 2018 21:50:11 GMT
Walter pulls down his goggles and strokes his beard nervously as he waits. He takes a deep breath and tells himself "The landing is easy, getting up is the trick."
Suddenly he's catapulted into the air flying through...well not flying, but uhmm, falling with style? Walter calms himself enough from the initial excitement and positions himself for the freefall with his arms out and knees bent for just a minute before using his own summoned launch platforms, however instead of using them to gain momentum for his own jumps, he moves from one to the next to slow his descent for a smooth landing. He takes a deep breath and says "Okay, that went well."

Jayk is still wondering what the heck he's going to do when the launch hits. "Duuuuuuuuuuuuuust an' Griiiimblllles!" The scream dopplars as he is thrown out over the forest. Thinking as fast as he can, he snaps out the meteor hammer his family gave him, and it begins to re-form. Taking the now-created shoulder cannon, he aims at the tallest tree he can see and fires. The shot propels him back, reducing speed at the same time as he re-forms the hammer. grabbing the chain to be pulled behind the now-hurtling other head. The idea works. In theory. In practice, it means tree 1, Jayk 0 as he hammers into the trunk and is tossed down through the canopy of the wood. He is, however, very good at finding branches on the way down.

Post by Erin Skala on Nov 28, 2018 21:40:52 GMT
Erin had mostly kept to himself. Partnered with someone.....huh... That couldn't be so bad...right? He listened to Professor Ozpin right up until they were told to take positions. His more slender form slipped up into place and he glanced around. He was dressed in black and greens with accents of dark blue. His violin case was black and on close inspection was plated segments. His longish black hair pulled back and tied at the nape of his neck. Multi colored eyes flicking around. (One blue and one green eye.)
And with a startled sound in the back of his throat he was launched into the air. No panic on his features. For a moment he just enjoyed the flight then he took a breath and closed his eyes recalling a younger time..a memory and whispered to himself... "Fly with me..."
He aimed to dive and somersaulted in the air before coming to a glide/fall on his belly. Spreading his arms out quickly a dark translucent shadow slipped over his body like a second skin. Wings spilled out from it and when the shadows settled a Nevermore flew in the skies though the observant ones could see the small smaller humanoid form within the thick translucent bird. He allowed himself a slow decent until his feet touched down and he jogged to an eventual stop. The Nevermore's form misting off him like wisps of dust.
His heart pounded rapidly...whomever he met now...would be his partner...
