Scarlet had been moving north for a few minutes. She had her pistol holstered but her blade drawn. If she ran into someone else, her future partner presumably, then that would be nice but her first concern was the forest's inhabitants. The Emerald Forest was infested with Grimm and she was keenly alert listening for them. She had learnt plenty about them in her time, all the various species, their looks, noises and hunting patterns. She was confident she could handle anything the forest could throw at her.
Ahead of her, she heard a sound, a rustle in the leaves. Moving quietly along the edge of thicket Scarlet looked around a tree and came face-to-face with a purple haired girl with an eye-patch.

If there's something that Orchid is not good at, it's noticing stuff, especially on her right side. She holds her baseball bat over her shoulder in the crook of her arm, and digs into one of the pockets of her tactical vest. She lights herself a cigarette, her body still covered in pine needles, branches, and mud. It doesn't seem to phase her though.
She leans against a tree, sees movement out of the corner of her good eye, and sees the red haired girl.
"Huh. Guess we're in the business of keeping each other alive. Want a cigarette?"

Scarlet remembered there had been some sort of altercation between her friends and this girl. However this was not the time to bring this up, personal issues could be discussed back at the Academy. Looking Orchid over Scarlet realised that the girl must have had a rough landing, clearly not a great landing strategy.
"I'm Scarlet Cardinal," she introduced herself, "No, I don't smoke. Come on, north is this way. If we keep up a good pace we'll be bound to find the relic that Professor Ozpin wants soon,"

"Sounds good to me. Don't worry about me, though, I'm harmless."
Orchid plucks the cigarette out of her lips and crushes the burning end between her fingers, wincing slightly at the burn, before she tucks what remains into one of the many pockets on her tactical vest. She's not dressed anything like she would normally at the school, of course. This is no place for casual wear. This is a place for hidden pockets, and ease-of-movement considerations, and temperature protection, and shes got that in spades. Orchid gives off every indication of being someone who has done this, or something like this, before.
She's got an Uzi at her hip, and her hand wrapped tightly around the top end of the hilt on her baseball bat.
"So, as long as we're partners, what do you do anyways?"

"Harmless? Hopefully to me anyway," Scarlet said as they moved through the forest. She noted the uzi and the baseball bat in Orchid's hands, the practical tactical vest that she wore, this was clearly a girl who could handle herself, "What do I do other than stab and shoot?" Scarlet asked, "I suppose you mean my semblence? I can create auditory hallucinations," Scarlet gave Orchid a quick taste of that and made that last sentence appear to echo around Orchid's head, "Good for distractions and diversions,"

"Cool. I'm just really fraggin' stubborn." She said, walking through the bush with Scarlet, her voice hushed slightly, barely above the level of the background forest din. "I'll take stabbin' and shootin' too, though."
While she's moving, she's building a mental map of the area in her head, taking note of places which are good ambush sites, both to avoid them and maybe use them to their advantage later. She's cataloguing glimpsed fruits and berries in case they need to start foraging for food.
She keeps as quick a pace as she can while minding moving quietly.

"Stubborn can be good in the right circumstance. Holding your ground no matter what. But then there are times you need to give ground, I guess the trick is to learn when to do that," Scarlet says as they walk through the forest.
She looked around the forest, "Hmm, it is one thing learning about the Grimm, it is entirely another putting it all into practice," she looked back to Orchid appraisingly, "You fancy you can take out a Grimm with your bat there?"

"I know I can," she says, cryptically. She doesn't elaborate.
Inside her head, she's already crying out at the attempt to philosophize. There's a mission, it needs doing. To that end, the purple haired girl turns briefly to Scarlet.
"How long do you reckon it's going to take us to get to the target location, and what do you think about all this stuff about 'picking an artifact'?"

There is a hissing sound and almost out of nowhere a large black snake springs out of the woods at the two girls.

"Well the Emerald Forest is miles across, it could take a couple of hours--" Scarlet was interrupted when the large Grimm snake appeared, "A King Taijitu! I'll distract it!" she said whipping out her pistol, "When it goes for me, you start swinging for the fences...that's the correct baseball term, right? Tell me later," with that Scarlet fired a couple of shots at the Grimm's head and began backing off to the right.

Finally, a fight!
Orchid's not one to argue, at least not when it was something she wanted to do anyways. If the snake comes at her she's marginally more cautious, but she's not a paragon of defensive fighting.
No, instead what happens is that she skips nimbly to the side while her bat grows a succession of nails and barbed wire wrapped around the far end, and she swings with all her considerable might into the flank of the Grimm, letting out a loud grunt to force as much energy as possible into the killing end of the bat.

The snake is going to go for Scarlet flashing it's giant fangs trying to latch onto her, it will shrink back from her pistols but not seem to be terribly damaged.
Orchid will go to hit the flank but find that there is a second head which will strike out at her.

"Orchid! Watch out!" Scarlet will dart back from the Taijitu and switch her fire to the second head now attacking her partner. The pistol is quite loud and the bullets pack a punch.

The second head flashes out and almost gets caught by it before she jumps backwards, narrowly getting missed. She frowns heavily and pulls out her purple Uzi, and spares a glance towards Scarlet.

Scarlet's Bullets seem to just be making the snakehead angry it will move at her in a fast movement.
The snakehead that Orchid is fighting will try to wrap around her.

"We seem to be irritating it!" Scarlet said, trying to think how best they could defeat this beast, "Maybe there is a weak spot? Hold on I got an idea, a really stupid idea," Scarlet said, she allowed the Taijitu to close in and prepare to strike at her. When the head came down Scarlet expected her spear and jammed it between the serpent's jaws.

Orchid growls as the snake doesn't seem to be getting the message, and spends her time trying to get the heck out of the way of it, dodging backwards to try to escape its attempt to wrap around her.

The Snake is going to make a gargled hissing sound and try to pull back it's white head abandoning Orchid to strike at Scarlet.

Scarlet is going to leave her spear jammed in the jaw of the giant snake and tries to leap over the incoming head and land on its back.

Now that she sees the snake has turned it's attention she stops skipping backwards, planting her foot behind her. She uses that to suddenly reverse momentum, launching herself at the snake, her bat held above her head like a medieval claymore. With a loud, gutteral shout, she brings it down into the.... neck? lower head? body?... of the double headed snake, putting all her might into it.

the two of them destroy the creature together at once, Orchid cutting a head off causing the white part of it to fall to the ground, scarlet jamming her spear into the jaw of the snake. causing it to fall down now dead. before it turns to ash and floats away on the wind.

Scarlet dropped tothe ground and caught her spear. She breathed a sigh of relief and looked over to Orchid, “Good work partner,” she smiled, “Lets get that artefact,”

"Yeah," She says, sweat battered but feeling good after getting in a fight. He reaches into her vest's breast pocket and takes out the partially burned cigarette from earlier, pops it between her lips and lights it with a match.
She exhales the smoke and looks towards the goal, before starting back towards it, bat resting against her shoulder.
The post fight adrenaline high is going to wear off real soon.
