Sylie- Haze - Are Partners

Sylvie glides into the forest surprisingly quietly, a rush of air over blood red batwings her only sound. When she's still about 5 or 6 meters from the ground the "webbing" of the wings flow smoothly back into her short metal gauntlets. She starts dropping sharply without the uplift of wings, but reaches out with one hand to an overhanging branch she would otherwise miss by a large margin, reaching impossibly far to catch it - her arm doesn't stretch, but rather the hand extends off the wrist on a column of red.
Sylvie doesn't try to stop herself with the first branch, instead swinging forward to grasp another branch with her other arm, swinging like a malformed ape from tree to tree until she's slowed enough she can drop to the ground, landing with the barest rustle of undergrowth.
Crouching down for a moment, hidden in the brush, she closes her eyes and listens carefully to everything around her - wary of predatory Grimm, but also listening for fellow students. After all, she needs to pick up a partner sometime...

After her first few moments on the ground Haze slowed her pace. With another click her blades were tonfas once more and she secured them at her sides. She studied the area around, searching for any sign that man or Grimm had come before her. There were not visible prints that she could find and the trees and brushes weren't broken or torn denoting something larger moving through them.
Haze heard noise from above and off to one side. Nothing the pitched noises of a battle...but something was moving. Then it all stopped. Her silver eyes narrowed and reached a hand up to tuck some stray hair behind her ear. She gave it a count of thirty before starting in that direction. One hand rested on the hilt of one of her tonfas as she entered the area where Sylvie lay in wait.
She barely made any noise as she moved now, focusing on stealth in case whatever had made the noise from before was still around and was just lying in wait. Haze was a few feet from the bush where Sylvie hid. She was all but certain she was being watched, but she couldn't quite find the other girl.

Sylvie is a patient predator, waiting for several minutes, then waiting for more - birds and insects cautiously resuming their normal noises, gaining confidence as she continues to do her impression of a rock.
The sounds dim a little, to the side and behind her. Not much, but it's a change, mostly ground insects either fleeing or sounding insect alarms. Her eyes open to slits and her head turns slowly, scanning for movement.
There, off to the side, 4 o'clock position. The quiet girl off by herself the night before - she's gotten closer than Sylvie expected, closer than she'd like to be fair, but that only intrigues Sylvie more. Whoever she was, she was good. That makes her a good potential ally - but also a potential threat.
Sylvie ponders for a split second - but she's always been inclined to be bold.
"Hey there wallflower," the renegade bandit says as she rises slowly enough to (hopefully) not provoke an attack. Her arms stay down, hands open, empty and palms facing the other girl. Of course, a bandit probably won't relax, but it may forestall any immediate attacks.
"I'm Sylvie." She gives a crooked grin and asks, "partners? Or are you going to try to kill me?"

Haze's free hand darted to the hilt of her second tonfa while the other hand gripped the first hilt more tightly as Sylvie made her presence known. She turned slowly to the other girl, giving her a once over - checking for threats. There were no brandished weapons and Sylvie's stance wasn't quite right for anything hostile...not that that couldn't be easily fixed.
She let a breath out slowly and loosened her grip but didn't immediately let go of her weapons. They were still secured, but it made her feel better in this moment...and the hesitancy could totally be seen as not wanting to caught unawares by a Grimm and not necessarily being confronted by the stranger in front of her.
~Yeah right...who am I kidding? If she is what I think she is, she'll know the truth.~ Haze thought.
The wallflower moniker, however, elicited a quick smirk even thought Haze tried desperately to contain it.
"I'm Sylvie." "Partners? Or are you going to try to kill me?"
That last question did it. Haze finally released her hold on the tonfa grips and lowered her arms to the side, giving Sylvie the same courtesy she had been shown moment ago.
"Now wouldn't killing you defeat the purpose?" Her tone was light as she cocked her head to the side curiously. "Besides I am sure there are rules, I might get in loads of trouble...oh and I suspect it would be a much messier fight for the both us."
Haze matched Sylvie's grin with one of her own and nodded.
"Haze." "Now that introductions are over, lets get going. We can walk and talk at the same time...and if we keep it to a dull roar we shouldn't attract too much attention."

Sylvie's grin widens and she chuckles at Haze's reply, arms relaxing to her sides.
"Well, who am I to say what your purpose here actually is?" She counters with a wicked twinkle in her eyes. "And I didn't say you would kill me, just that you could in theory try"
She doesn't seem to be carrying any weapons at all - an unimaginative opponent might think she's unarmed, either through lack of preparation or foolish overconfidence. A cautious opponent might keep looking, or start worrying that she doesn't need one.
"We can walk and talk at the same time.."
Sylvie gives a faint chuckle at the suggestion and nods, falling into step with the other girl as they continue in the general direction they were launched from the cliff.
"So, any hobbies beyond people watching?" She asks wryly. She doesn't ask about Haze's personal history or origin, figuring that she would share what she's comfortable sharing on her own schedule.

As they walked, Haze kept her attention divided between the forest around them and Sylvie beside her. Her new partner's lack of visible weapon was both intriguing and concerning. She had never heard of a huntress of huntsman who didn't wield a weapon of some kind so she couldn't help but wonder what Sylvie had hidden up her sleeve.
After another moment of curious contemplation she shook herself back to the present and managed to just catch Sylvie's question.
Haze frowned for a moment. This shouldn't be a hard question, but it was. What did she do other than observe others? Well she patrolled, hunted, went on missions for the tribe...but what did she like to do beyond that? She drew in a shallow breath before finally answering. "Well, I never really thought about it much. I guess I like to read, but I don't get much time to do it since I always find myself pretty busy."
Her eyes darted quickly to Sylvie. "How about you?"

the two of them hear an odd screeching sound off in the woods.

Sylvie's eyes glitter with amused speculation at the pause, however brief, Haze gives before giving her rather uncertain answer. Interesting - from what she's gathering from the 'vibe' she gets from Haze, the girl's from one of the larger bandit tribes, and Sylvie finds herself wondering if the lack of time for outside activities was deliberate, but not on Haze's part. "Sounds like you've been kept busy," she says dryly. "You here at the school on a job?" Her grin grows conspiratorial as she adds, "or have you struck off on your o..." The last word of Sylvie's question cuts off as she hears the screeching - she goes dead silent and still for the moment, head swivelling slowly to scan for the source, trying to place what type of creature it might be.
((do either of them place it? I assume two sometimes-woodsy bandity types would have some knowledge of what different Grim sound like, even if only to know "run for the hills!" as kids.))

Those silver eyes widen fractionally when Sylvie calls her out on being a job while at the school. The other words sort of fell to wayside, though, as the distant screech raised the hairs on her neck. Haze yanked her tonfas free, spun them once to get them in a better position and attempted to track where the noise had come from.
All she wanted to do was keep going, to avoid this threat as they were told they would be confronted with many...so to be sure they would come across more in their trek. Better to save what strength they had while they could. But Haze had a sneaking suspicion whatever had made that noise had made their position. They might not be as lucky as she'd prefer
((seconded about iffen the pair would know where/what it is?))

((You would have a basic Grimm knowledge from training to get into Beacon, this isn't anything you've heard before.))
What looks like a giant black rat with the Grimm bone like sheets and the red markings of a Grimm will come out of the bushes it will let out a squeaking screech and begin to bound towards the two young huntresses. It's tail seemingly made from bone.

Sylvie's smile fades to a faint frown as she fails to recognize the screeching - lack of familiarity meant dealing with it would be that much harder. That said, with the noise it's making they at least have ample warning of its approach.
If she could read Haze's mind Sylvie would be in complete agreement - a fight they could avoid is always preferable to one they can't. That faint hope goes out the window as the creature comes into view only to head straight for them.
"Looks like it's go time," Sylvie says as a wry smirk crosses her face again. "You go low, I'll go high?" she adds, crouching a bit in preparation of a leap. If Haze agrees with the suggestion Sylvie will launch herself high into the air with her aura, a blood-red spear forming between outstretched hands.

Haze watched as this new Grimm came at them. She quickly cataloged what she could based on its appearance. If they couldn't get away from it the next course of action would be to take it out as efficiently as possible. The bony tail could probably be used as a weapon along with those rat-like teeth it sported. The bone along its body would probably make hits against it do less damage. The underbelly though...
She looked at Sylvie as she suggested the course of action. Haze matched the other girl's smirk as she seemed to read her thoughts and offer the chance to test her theory.
With a quick nod, Haze darted off to the side. Using her speed she then veered toward the creature and threw herself into a roll. At the last minute she hit the bottun on Argent Facade's hilts and slashed out at low and fast at what she hoped was the least protected part of the Grimm.

the two spears catch the rat-thing between then and they cut into it making it squeak and squeal, it seems to still be alive and lashes it's tail out at Sylvie's Landing place while clawing towards Haze.

Sylvie lands hard on the Grimm's back, the slender spear digging deeply into the beast - but it refuses to die easily. She catches sight of the tail coming at her like a scorpion's and she flings herself around the shaft of her spear like a stripper with a death wish. Her gauntlets and the spear itself take the brunt of the assault and while the metal might crumple in what looks like a painfully crushing impact, she ignores it for the moment. Instead she focuses her energy and blood into the spear - expanding it within the Grimm in a flat, star-like pattern, trying to split the beast in half. It's a risky move, making her an easier target for a second attack - provided it lives long enough to try. hopefully that's not too much, if it is, tell me an I can edit

Haze hissed as the rat Grimm managed to claw at her after her strike.
Mist poured out from her body as Haze was forced to roll away to a safer distance, coming up in a kneeling stance. The mist swept over and around the beast, hindering its sight of its opponents (thought not affecting the girls one bit). She saw the tail coming up towards her partner while she tried to use her strange spear to bisect the Grimm down the middle.
Haze shook off the stinging pain she felt and pushed off the ground and moved towards the tail. She swung out with one of the bladed tonfas - intent on cutting the tail off below where the bone started, or at least block Sylvie.
"I got the tail. Get it dead already!"

The thing squirms and moves in the mist as is falls to the ground, when the mist moves away it's clear that the grimm has met its death at Sylvie's expanding spear being unable to land a blow due to the mist.
Sylvie sees something in the distance a shimmering circular disc like a familiar portal.

Sylvie falls through the rapidly dissipating cloud of ash that had so recently been a Grimm, landing in a crouch and giving a grin to Haze. The red spear shrinks as she straightens up, disappearing through the joints of her short gauntlets until her hands are empty.
"Nice moves! I see you live up to your name," she says in an appreciative tone, asking, "the mist your main shtick, or do you have other tricks up your sleeve?"
Haze hardly has time to reply when Sylvie spots the familiar shimmer of a portal and grins again.
"Oooh, I think I see BeeBee!" She points out the portal to Haze, waving at it vigorously if it's oriented in a direction that would allow Brook to see Sylvie through it.
"Want to try for safety in numbers?" She asks Haze.

Haze watched with interest as the bloody spear oozed away into Sylvie's attire. Something else to file away for later. The mist dissipated along with the Grimm, lingering just a little longer than that dark dust. Her lips quirked up in response to Sylvie's question and she even opened her mouth to answer when Sylvie cut her off and pointed.
The portal was anything but familiar to her and the name made her frown for a moment before shaking her head and shrugging. "Beebee? One of the girls from the other night?"
Haze returned Argent Facade to its normal tonfas form and secured them at her hips again. "More people also mean more chance of getting spotted by Grimm, but definitely more weapons with which to take 'em out. Sure."
She started in the direction that Sylvie had pointed out the portal, assuming that her partner would follow if not overtake her to get to her friend.
